The nurses were able to get mom in a chair this morning, and she is glad to be out of bed. She received a new bed this morning. Her new bed is an air mattress that will alternate air periodically so that the pressure points change. This should help a little, but she does have bed sores on her bottom, and they are causing her discomfort. The nurses are actively treating these to minimize her risk of infection.
Her white blood cell count is still very low, so she will continue to receive anti-biotics around the clock in her i.v.
She received a few pints of blood yesterday to get her red blood cell count up.
Mom has a blood clot in her right arm that is also hurting her. She is receiving heparin to reduce her blood clotting, and she will receive additional treatment to break up the clot later today. Her right arm and hand are swollen, but the swelling in her left hand has gone down a little since the Lasix.
She has a hard time opening cards, but she is glad that this blog is going. To reiterate what Kay said, if you would like to leave a comment for her, we'll get the blog comments and read them to her. I did this on Wednesday and she really enjoyed hearing from everyone. Extra points for stories or jokes that will make her laugh!

Hey Beth,
I hope you are doing better soon.
We had our guidance counselor workshop today and the best part was all the yummy food. It was at the Inn and they had all their beautiful Christmas trees up. Jennifer's daughter's school has a tree there and Jennifer was coercing everyone to vote for their decorations. The kids decorations were bows and beads and their presents were wrapped with pictures of all the kids. It was really cute!
This morning I received an email from a friend in New Orleans and they had a miracle yesterday. It Snowed! It was the first time she had ever seen "real snow" and she sent pictures of them rolling around it on the ground (the adults, that is). They only had about an inch, but you would have thought it was a foot by the way they were acting.
These blogs are great! I'm so glad they did this so that we could stay in touch with you. Feel better soon!

Hi Beth!
Its Becky! Al told me he had written you yesterday and I wanted to keep it going from here in Georgia!!! You know how much we are thinking of you and pulling for you to kick this in the ass!! I know you can do it, girl!!! And despite David's pleas for no line dancing at the wedding, I just learned how to do it and am determined that we will have a "gurls only" electric slide at the wedding! So you just get your self better so you can be the leader of the raunchiest, funckie-est line dance ever!
Luv Ya!
Becky
Beth,
I just learned of your situation. I would love to come & visit but understand that only family members are allowed at this time. Can someone please send me your hospital address so I can send a card? My email address is below.
Hang in there girl. You are strong and I know you can get through this. The Beth Robertson I knew in high school was a fighter.... and I know you still are. Keep the faith.
Love,

Beth,
Get outta there and get back to Sports Club. My jokes are dying without your laughter!
It is great having this blog so that we can keep up with your progress, especially that "peeing three liters" bit. T.M.I.
Although you haven't heard from me yet, you must know that Dawn and I have you in our prayers... big time! And I know that many others are holding you up daily.
I tried to have dinner with Bud this week, but it seems that he is galavanting around and prefers someone else's company to mine! Go figure. Perhaps we'll be able to take a rain check this week... and we'll catch up on you.
We will be heading to Luray for Christmas this coming Thursday; so will be away from the computer for a while.
I'm so glad that David is here with you... and that he is able to communicate with the doctors and then "translate" for you.
Hang in there... and hope to see you S O O N !

Hey Girlfriend,
OK enough of this being sick stuff! We want you to hurry up and get better soon! We miss you aggravating (did I just say that out loud?), I mean "instructing" us when we screw up on the cutting and dealing of the poker cards. AND THEN, we can go to the lake and self medicate ourselves with doses of our own choosing! This is a direct order from your Rare Rubies Queen.....GET WELL SOON!!!!!
Sending you Love with Prayers, Good Healing Thoughts and Hugs,
Cathy
Hi, Beth. Hope you get this comment. You know how bad I am at technology. (Remember you had to teach me to use my cell phone.) You may get two comments as the one I just wrote went somewhere into the Universe. "The Girls" really miss you. It is much too dull without your antics. We will be good and not spread our germs but you have to be good, too, and do what they say so we can all get together and start being bad as usual. We are sending you lots of healing light. Hugs, Sue
Hi Beth-
I have been in touch with Heather and want you to know you are in my prayers here on the west coast. The other day I was remembering how you and mom used to get Heather and I out of school early to watch basketball games. I really feel it was justified, it is always more important to cheer on the hokies than learn math, english or history!! :) we are so lucky to have cool moms!!

Hi Beth, This is Dale Alvarez thinking of you and praying for you. I was so happy to see David last Wed. on my volunteer day at the hospital. I was thinking of you last night as Richard and I were on our way home and looked up to see just the biggest and brightest moon. Much love to you and God bless. Dale
Hi Beth!
We've been thinking about you and hope you are doing better.
David misses his favorite girl to honk at (as she walks the VT campus) and I miss my Red Hat co-pilot.
The girls have been toasting your health as often as possible : )
Hang in there and get well soon!

Happy Sunday Morning Beth,
I am so glad to get to send you a note because it was killing me a few days back when I sent and OSFA knowing you would not see yet you would have loved it. I know how much you love receiving all those non-work related osfa's. More specifically all the "i'll be late" OSFA's. Well, it was a day I was "in charge" as MK and BS were traveling and I had to send a note to say I would be late becuase the sitter backed over Santa and has a flat tire. :) :) now that should make you laugh for sure!!!!!!!
You get the details, but this was not included. It was one of those expensive blow up ones with the snow globe. It was deflated in the yard exactly where Katie, our sitter, backs up each day and she forgot he put it there. He was furious and she told him he should no better than to put it where she backs up every single day! :) :)
On a serious note, when i say it seems you are constantly on my mind, it's no exaggeration. I am praying for you thoughout the day every day. My humanly self beggs for understanding why you have to go through this yet the christian in me reminds me God has a plan and a purpose. Remember, the speed in which you heal is not so significant, just that you heal. Take it one day at a time and just focus on healing that day.
Luke 12 6-7 "Are not 5 sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear Not therefore: ye are far more value than many sparrows.
God Loves You! Many prayers for a good healing day. God Bless you Carrie
